How Stray Works

When you travel Australia with Stray, you have the choice of a hop-on hop-off pass, or an all-inclusive tour. Here's some help understanding how it works and what is best for you.

HOP-ON HOP-OFF BUS PASSES

how it works

“It’s like being on a road trip with your mates where you can also stay longer anywhere that you want”

 How Hop-on Hop-off works:

  • Choose a bus pass
  • Make your way around its travel route in the time that suits you
  • "Hop" off the bus anywhere at anytime, to stay longer, visit friends or even work for a while.
  • Then "hop" back on again by booking yourself back on the bus with our app

It is that easy! The buses run several times a week (check the timetable).  If you are short on time, you don't have to ever "hop off" - you can also use your Stray bus pass like a tour and complete the itinerary in its "Minimum Days". With this you will still enjoy outstanding locations and unique attractions around Australia, and we have included some non-travel days to break up your journey.

Pass Validity

Hop-on Hop-off Passes are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase (unless promotional terms apply). Once your trip has commenced, you have a further 12 months to complete your pass.

The Route

You have the freedom to choose to travel North or South between Sydney and Cairns on a hop-on hop-off guided adventure.

You’ll be guided the whole way, travelling with up to 24 like-minded travellers on a mixture of our own buses and fast trains. If the whole coast isn’t for you or you’re pushed for time, don’t worry because we have heaps of different passes to choose from starting from either Sydney, Byron Bay, Brisbane or Cairns.

Accommodation

Accommodation is not included but at every Stray overnight stop you'll have a bed reserved. This is guaranteed, so while you're travelling with us, you don't need to worry! Simply book your accommodation via our app or chat to your guide.

Activities

We’ve chucked in heaps of leg stretchers and fun activities for you to experience, so depending on which pass you go for you’ll be enjoying:

  • Wine tasting in Hunter Valley
  • Secret swimming holes
  • Scenic country walks
  • Wildlife centres
  • Awesome kayaking trips
  • Epic spots for sunrises and sunsets

Other activities like learning to surf, The Whitsundays and Fraser Island can be bought on our website, through our app or through your guide.

Guides

These legends are your locals on hand to give you any help you need.  There are heaps of unique experiences to be had, and with their Aussie expertise you’ll be taken to secret watering holes, stunning beaches, given tips on cheap eats and the best nights out on the coast.

All passes are guided by a fun Driver Guide whose main job is to ensure you have a great time! Need help? Just ask. Drivers can book your accommodation, activities and introduce you to all the local hotspots. They are a valuable source of aussie knowledge.

Transport

Travel in comfort on Stray's modern air conditioned bus fleet between Sydney & Cooroy. From Cooroy to Cairns, you will be with your guide aboard the Spirit of Queensland train service (All train travel included in the pass price). We recommend booking seats in advance during peak season (Jan - March) when the network is busy. We make stops along the way to show you amazing things, like a beautiful waterfall, short scenic walk, local food tasting or breathtaking view!
