Why Stray

Hey, we’re Stray Australia.

We’re a bunch of travellers who like to travel a little bit differently. We love getting off the beaten track, meeting locals and of course ticking all those big bucket list experiences.

We’ve been around since 2014, but you may have known us as Loka Travel. We've since teamed up with Stray to combine forces to bring you the best local travel experience we can. Though we have a new name, you can still expect the same passion and level of service that we've been providing for the last 4 years and counting.

So who are we really? We offer guided, hop-on hop-off passes up and down the East Coast.  We link all the famous places and beautiful beaches with some special, unique stops to really show off Australia’s amazing diversity, culture and scenery.

Our mission is to take you further off the beaten track in Australia, taking you to all those bucket list spots but also adding in a few extras that will blow you away.

Our local crew have chosen some unique places to include on our travel route including Barrington Tops, Great Keppel Island, River Retreat and Tully Rainforest Experience

We call these exclusive destinations our Strademark Places; these are the places that you are unlikely to find in a guidebook, but the ones you’ll be talking about long after the adventure has ended.

Some bus companies will take you straight from A to B with barely a toilet break in between but we'll break up the trip with great stops and inclusions en route to your next destination.

A typical travel day can see you stopping off to visit beautiful blue pools, climbing to a lookout for a photo opportunity, and even visiting and koala hospital.

A hop-on-hop-off travel pass on our adventure travel network allows you the flexibility to tailor your trip to suit you.  You choose what part of the route you want to travel and how long you want to travel for.

Stray’s hop-on-hop-off passes are valid for 12 months from the first date of travel so you can stop to work, play or volunteer along the way.

You also choose where you stay, what activities you do and buy food that suits your budget, so you can save extra cash for those bucket list activities or a few more beers at the bar.

Our Guides will take you on the adventure, point out their favourite places, and recommend accommodation and activities but what you choose to do is entirely up to you!

Stray is the ‘no stress’ way to get around. You don’t need to drive, navigate, work out where to go or where to stop. You just relax in air-conditioned comfort as your guide takes you on an awesome road trip. When you're travelling with us you'll be picked up from your accommodation, taken on walks and stop at cool places along the way. You have the flexibility to hop-off the bus/train at any stop and stay as long as you'd like. Just let us know when you want to hop back on, or book yourself via our app. Its that easy!

Your guide has extensive knowledge of the best things to see and do in Australia, so if you’ve got questions, need advice or support, they’re there to help – almost like a walking guidebook! You can ask them anything, from information about Australian history and culture to the best spot to get a cold beer.

With Stray you’ll get great deals on activities so you can afford to do more. Your guide can book these in for you, they’ll also suggest free or low cost things for you to do too.

And you’ll never be stuck without a bed for the night, because while you’re travelling with us we guarantee accommodation each night of your trip in a dorm at the Stray recommended accommodation. Your driver will ask you the night before if you want a bed or not – and it’s entirely up to you.

We have extremely high customer satisfaction and referrals because we offer travellers more of what they want – down-to-earth, real Australia with an awesome crew and a greater emphasis on your needs.

As travellers, we understand the impact tourism can have on a community. That’s why we aim to partner with sustainable operators and provide benefits to the communities we travel through such as much needed employment opportunities in rural areas. This also helps us ensure we have the most authentic trips on offer, so you can experience the real Australia.
